An engrossing tale of action bravery fear and suspense with than a hint of romance thrown into the mix This is a credible debut novel by the author and he has done a good job of bringing together relationships the un dead government experiments and shale fracking which in itself is a topical issueI ve never seen a zombie film really and I ve never read a zombie story prior to this one so I dived in with an open mind just as I do with any genre that is new to me What I found was instead of smirking at the idea of people with glazed expressions and lumps of flesh missing I was drawn in to the story within the first few paragraphsNathan the central character will appeal to the ladies because he s rugged and ready to tackle danger head on He ll defend those that are less able to do so He ll appeal to the guys because he s a man s man in a macho sort of way I liked the portrayal from the outsetIf the story is so enjoyable why then have I rated it 4 star and not 5 star I am pleased to say that I read the first edition of this story but had no wish to leave a negative review I can see the massive effort that has gone into producing this version The blood may not have been there for the author but I reckon the sweat and tears must have beenUnless you have expertise in certain areas the minor issues will not stand out so you won t find me highlighting them here Suffice to say that once there are a few reviews I believe that Ian will look back at this story and see how another edit might polish it even I know I could lift a top novel from the bookshelf of a high street store and show issues with the final product and those guys have a team of editors behind them All that said this is a great piece of storytelling which is why you should invest in the author s brand and push him to write He is in possession of that most important ingredient the desire to tell a story and I believe he will work hard to hone his writing skillsIn summary I found what I always look for in a book good imagery believable characters natural dialogue and a great plot There is a strong hint that there will be a seuel and it will be on my TBR list

Wow that ending I did not see coming I love when books can seem so predictable and then bam you re left shocked and asking what just happened This is not your typical zombie story A fracking accident has released a bio toxin into the air when a storage tank at a secret underground government facility is damaged Nathan our would be hero is just a normal guy Ex military divorcedintent on living uietly and alone When he meets Evelyn all of that changes He no longer has the option of a uiet life as he is dragged into this mess that has been made Operating from a military base and the underground labs Evelyn works to find a cure and Nathan fights to keep them all alive The fight becomes personal when one of their own succumbs to the illness and the ticking of the clock gets louder I loved this book There is a large number of characters as the perspective changes to be able to tell the whole story and each one is given their due to show the writer s talent for character development With the exception of those we are supposed to hate I loved them all and found myself rooting for them and worrying they wouldn t succeed in time This book has it all If you are looking for just another mundane gory zombie story this is not your book But if you re wanting a story that is rich and entertaining and dives into the how and why of a zombie apocolypse rather than just the what then look no further You won t be disappointed
