Summary ↠ Time of Trial (The Laws of Magic #4) 108 After narrowly escaping the worst fate imaginable Aubrey realizes there's only one thing left to do he must confront his nemesis on his own evil ground It may look like a simple wire device but the Beccaria Cage could be the cure for Aubrey's condition a way to reunite his body and soul But can Aubr. This is clearly the ungainly transitional book between the fun and games of the first half of the series and the serious military action of the second half I reckon Pryor did a relatively decent job of the transition at least tone wise But in terms of plot this instalment felt a lot less elegant and the pacing a lot clunkierThere were so many contrived plot points that felt ridiculous and wildly unbelievable There were a bunch of new characters that never got enough screentime and seemed to be thrown in at random times some were introduced early in contrived subplots that ended up having absolutely no bearing on the bigger picture while others had a major hand in some shady conspiracies but only appeared about thirty pages before the book endedBut this isn t even the main reason I didn t enjoy this book as much as its predecessors Let s get to the elephant in the roomAubrey s obsession with Caroline is really getting out of hand Yes I get that he s a hormonal teenager experiencing his first crush and she actually is a fucking badass but seriously It s like Caroline can t even breathe without Pryor needing to pen an entire paragraph on how fucking amazing Aubrey thinks she is I can t turn a single page without having a sentence or two shoved in my face about how beautiful lovely admirable intelligent wonderful mature perceptive strong determined capable and witty Caroline is I get that Pryor is trying to capture a sweet teenage romance but after wading through three books worth of this extra concentrated gooey cheese I can t take it any I m sorry It s like Aubrey s incapable of having a single Caroline related thought that isn t inherently near worshipful Jesus Christ chillI m also getting a bit sick of the politicking It s been the same for four books now and the characters have barely changed despite what they ve been through I hope the last two books aren t so hard to get through 255 Threesome Bundle only Oscure gioie one thing left to do he must confront his nemesis Hackers: A play in eleven scenes on his My beautiful enemy own evil ground It may look like a simple wire device but the Beccaria Cage could be the cure for Aubrey's condition a way to reunite his body and soul But can Aubr. Summary ↠ Time of Trial (The Laws of Magic #4) 108 Ey solve its mysteries while Dr Tremaine's warmongering machinations gather pace After magical confrontations near death experiences and the appearance of new allies and new enemies Aubrey decides that there is only one thing to do carry the fight to the enemyThanks to a fortuitously timed symposium Au. This fourth instalment in the adventures of Aubrey George and Caroline took me longer to get through then each of the previous ones did I struggled to be absorbed in the unfolding story and found much of what happened to be so coincidental as to verge on the ridiculous One aspect of Time of Trial that particularly disappointed me was the lack of any clear motivating plotline The characters have a vague plan to confront their enemy the vile Dr Mordecai Tremaine intent on bringing the world to war but much of what occurs during the novel seems to happen to them rather than the characters being the controllers of their own lives After foiling a particularly insidious plot of Tremaine s Aubrey Caroline and George decide to travel to Holmland Germany and confront their enemy on their own terms Along the way they get embroiled in various espionage plots ghost hunts and assassination attempts only to find themselves facing their enemy earlier than anticipated This was an action packed novel I just would have liked it to be focused and controlled with of Aubrey Fitzwilliam tenacity that I have come to enjoy
