Summary The Trial of Dr. Kate 108 In the summer of 1952 Lillian Johnson was found dead in her home slumped in the wheelchair that had become her cage due to multiple sclerosis An overdose of barbiturate had triggered a heart attack but the scene was not uite right It looked as though someone other than Lillian herself had injected the fatal doseDr Kate Marlow Lillian’s physician and best friend now sits in the Round Rock city jail The only. Reporter for the Memphis Express Shenandoah Coleman was stunned when she read the report which had just arrived in at the paper s desk her best friend from school Dr Kate Marlow had been indicted for the murder of another of her school friends Lillian Johnson Kate Lillian and Shenandoah had been best friends but had drifted apart when Shenandoah managed to get away from Round Rock during the war years She was a WASP in the air force before studying and attaining her credentials Her childhood in Round Rock on the wrong side of the tracks in Beulah Land and as one of the Coleman clan was one she had no desire to revisit With the blessing of her boss though she headed to Round Rock to follow and report on the case and as an investigative reporter was determined to do all she could to prove Kate s innocence She in no way believed Kate could commit murder Kate s father Dr Wade then Kate had been the life blood of the community and had saved lives than it would seem possible Arriving at the guest house where she would stay for the following two weeks she met the eccentric but kind owner Hattie Mae Hooper and her eually eccentric English bulldog Mr Applebee The bond between the two of them was incredible as they shared everything including food Shenandoah was happily comfortable in her lodgings As the days passed Shenandoah found herself coming up against old acuaintances old enemies and old friends in her uest to find out anything she could to help Kate But when she met the handsome Bobby Shenandoah couldn t work out if her heart was racing because he was so good on the eye or the heat was finally getting to her Telling herself to get a grip she deliberated on some of the things Kate had told her in one of her numerous visits to the jail one being that she couldn t remember anything about the day in uestion Things were not looking good for their defence With the clock ticking the trial rapidly approaching and all of Kate s friends doing their best they all wondered would it be enough With Dr Kate being the only doctor in their vast area she was needed desperately saving her from a guilty verdict was imperativeI thoroughly enjoyed this book Even though it s the second in the Round Rock series with Little Joe being the first they are really stand alones though some of the original characters make an appearance The mystery and intrigue is wonderful and kept me turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next There are a lot of characters and several side plots but they all blend easily and nowhere is it hard to follow Definitely a book I recommend and I ll be checking out the next in the series when it is releasedWith thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy to read and review

Summary The Trial of Dr. Kate 108 Y Now back in the town she grew up in she’ll have to turn every stone to keep Kate from a guilty verdict The Trial of Dr Kate is the second novel in a four part series from Michael E Glasscock III that explores the intricate social cloth of Round Rock Tennessee Though each story stands alone readers who enjoyed Glasscock’s first Round Rock tale Little Joe will delight in the cameo appearances in this one. The trial of Dr Kate takes us back to Round Rock in the 1950 s about 10 years after Little Joe book 1 Dr Kate is the daughter of Dr Marlow from Little Joe and she works ridiculously hard for the people of Parson s County Now she s been charged with the murder of one of her patients and she can t remember what happened that dayShenandoah Coleman now a reporter with the Memphis Express is back in Round Rock to cover the trial Though the trial is about Dr Kate Glasscock brings depth to several different characters in this story We learn about their histories via reminiscing and through conversation between charactersI thoroughly enjoyed the romantic element in this novel It was sweet and clean This time the romance was between a widower with a child and an independent woman with no aspirations toward motherhood It was very amusing to see her willingness and ineptitude at her attempt at childcareI felt that I really connected with Dr Kate and wholly approved of her moral values relating to abortion and assisted suicide I also liked her attitude of euality with the black people in her community I thoroughly disliked the Sheriff on the other hand who used his authority to belittle black people put them down and bully those he didn t likeI was shocked by some of the surprising twists near the conclusion of the story I can t mention them here as they will spoil the story but suffice it to say that I was blindsided by them I m not sure that I liked them but they did make for an ending I did not expect so be sure this is not your typical formula for a bookMichael Glasscock is a very smooth writer His people are believable their dialogue flows the way people really talk to one another This was altogether an enjoyable book I highly recommend it I gave it 5 starsThank you to NetGalley who provided a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review I was not reuired to give a positive opinion All thoughts are my own

Summary The Trial of Dr. Kate 108 Country doctor for miles Kate cannot remember her whereabouts at the time of Lillian’s deathand the small Tennessee town buzzes with judgmentAs Dr Kate’s trial approaches another woman is determined to uncover the truth about the night of Lillian’s death Memphis reporter Shenandoah Coleman grew up in Round Rock on the wrong side of the tracks but unlike the rest of her unsavory clan escaped her destin. I came across this novel by chance and I it turned out to be a real find Here are some reasons I enjoyed The Trial of Dr Kate that may appeal to other readers like yourselvesA It has an absorbing plot involving a mystery and as the courtroom drama concerning the matter builds the reader s suspense is heightened by the fact the accused doesn t truly know her level of culpability for the death in uestionB The primary character is a tragic hero who does great things as a matter of course but is critically flawed in one way sufficient to undermine all her good works The book also features other strong female characters most notably a young woman investigating the matter whose mind and independent investigation provide the perspective and shape of the narrative respectivelyC Like other works by author Michael E Glasscock III I ve read another book in the same series as the basis for this opinion this novel features in a co starring role as it were a richly drawn setting that embeds the reader s imagination in the story D There is an exciting and surprising conclusion in my opinionE Issues of substance abuse are treated respectfully and not as mere weaknesses in character in this case a very strong woman struggles mightily with alcoholism It s clearly not a simple matter of willpower or desire The narrative shows insight and sympathy for people with similar strugglesPlease be advised I read a free online edition of the novel at NetGalley by permission of the book s publisher Green Leaf Book Group
