CHARACTERS Son of the Shadows READ ☆ Son of the Shadows Juliet Marillier ò 0 READ Ders are being called into strategic alliances to defend their land There are some who blame the Britons of Northwoods for as long as the Islands home of mystic caves and sacred trees are lost there can be no peace and there are some who believe the enemy are much closer to home Liadhan with her gift of Sight and healing hands seems to hold the key For she exists outside the patt. This is my favorite book of all time My copy is dog eared and I m looking around for another one This was the book that set me off on my love for Juliet Marillier s books The simple elegance of the prose was the perfect voice for Liadan the main character The love between Bran and Liadan spoke to me the first time I read it and has echoed deeper and deeper with every reading of which there are many In my opinion this is better than the other two because the characters all have a way of worming themselves into your heart

CHARACTERS Son of the Shadows READ ☆ Son of the Shadows Juliet Marillier ò 0 READ WINNER OF THE AUREALIS AWARD FOR BEST FANTASY NOVELThe second book in the epic and compulsively readable Sevenwaters series Son of the Shadows follows the trials of the next generation at Sevenwaters and continues the struggles between the Irish and British that began in Daughter of the ForestAfter years of happiness darkness has fallen upon Sevenwaters Trouble is brewing and lea. OMG I loved this second book in the series I actually listened to it double time on audio and followed along in the book BUT I was so into the book I didn t mark down any excerpts I hate when I do that This world Juliet Marillier creates is just magical Yes there are bad things that happen but they always do in most fantasy books She just pulls you into the story and I can t even explain it I m no good at this explaining stuff Maybe if I could record my brain HmmI really hope the rest of the books are as good as this one and the first one This is one I could read over and over Absolutely perfect for what I needed to hear And I need to add that I love the narrator They do an awesome jobHappy Reading Mel

CHARACTERS Son of the Shadows READ ☆ Son of the Shadows Juliet Marillier ò 0 READ Ern and she alone seems to have the power to change itHow close are love and hate and yet how unalikePRAISE FOR SON OF THE SHADOWS A wonderful riveting story Barbara ErskineBeautifully written a sparkling saga of a family whose destiny is to help free Erin from British tyranny Publishers Weekly Fans of Marion Zimmer Bradley Isobelle Carmody and Robin Hobb will love Juliet Marilli. I didn t end up liking this one as much as Daughter of the Forest I feel like with Juliet Marillier it s a clear case of it s not you it s me The writing is beautiful and I love the Irish history and mythology but these stories will just never be my favorites Sorcha s daughter Liadan is the lead in this seuel but she s a bit of a carbon copy of her mother She looks exactly like her she s an herbal healer she has a brother with whom she shares a special mind link and bond she falls in love with the enemy of her family she has the uiet strength of endurance and mental fortitude I really liked Daughter of the Forest and there have definitely been repetitive series that I have loved anyway but I got bored a few times in this one Liadan must maneuver her way around her uncles the faerie the old ones and her enemies as they all await the prophecy that will restore the islands to the family of Sevenwaters at last This is the second time that I have read a Juliet Marillier novel that made my expectations and hopes soar but didn t deliver In the first I was disappointed by the lack of comeuppance for any of the black as night villians In this one I was so intrigued and excited by the prospect of a fighting heroine Liadan tells the reader right from the beginning that she is trained in bow and staff and can hold her own in a fight Then when challenged to show her skill she performs a small feat of archery I was so looking forward to the scene where she finally gets to use these skills for real in a big showdown of some sort preferably But it never happens In fact she never uses her alleged fighting skills once in the whole book I am not sure why it s even mentioned that she has them Liadan is a heroine in the same mold as Sorcha and I guess I just prefer my heroines to be a bit aggressiveAlso I admit that I was feeling pretty frustrated with the relationship between Liadan and Bran They meet and spend one week together during which she discovers that he has a troubled past and he is insulting and dismissive Then they share one night together and all of a sudden it s love So I was feeling a bit disgruntled with the whole affair until I read this He and I we share a bond Not love exactly It goes beyond that He is mine as surely as sun follows moon across the sky Okay So it s not love It s some sort of mystical connection I guess I can handle that Now to look forward to all of the scenes where they finally get to know one another and fall in love for reals Nope That never happened eitherLiadan also really frustrated me a few times Like when she judges her uncles so harshly for withholding key information from everyone but then does the exact same thing to her brother Sean and her fatheror when she inexplicably decides to take her infant child into immediate and terrible dangerIt s not all bad though I did like this book as a whole Niamh could have so easily been thrown away as a simple prop to show how virtuous and unselfish Liadan is by comparison I love that Liadan and by extension the author don t give up on her She became one of my favorite characters and I would have liked to see of her journey she had a real progression I also love that Juliet Marillier begins to explore the theme of genetic inheritance and destiny Although I am not so sure where she comes out on that is she saying that people can escape the legacy of their evil parents or not Her characters actually seem to prove that they can t I guess the jury s still out on view spoilerCiaran hide spoiler
