This book is an example of why I love browsing through used bookstores I don t think I d have ever found it otherwise Bookstores particularly chain bookstores the few that are left tend to focus on the newest and the bestselling With hundreds of new books being published every month obscure titles left on the shelf are soon returned to the publisher or destroyed in the case of many paperbacks as printing a new copy is cheaper than shipping the old one back The time a book has on the shelf has been getting shorter and shorter This is one of those books that s a bit of an odd duck I don t think it would have been in a store long if it was ever there at all And I d have never known to look for it But I really enjoyed it as it combines several of my interests travel memoir animals illustration and is a good book to dip into over a long period without having to start overIt s a series of brief animal encounters around the world by two Caldecott nominated children s book illustrators It doesn t fit perfectly in a category box memoir travel animals Beyond that while I don t think there was anything objectionable for young readers in this book it s really for adults So yet again it s a bit of a tweener with authors known for one thing writing something else These are the practical challenges of books in stores that aren t an issue with on line retailers where to put a book so its audience will find it The challenge with on line however is you need to know to look for the book you re unlikely to just stumble on something you d like especially books that are obscureThere are photos and illustrations throughout by both authors ranging from a rough or cartoonish style to near photo realistic I was familiar with Betsy Lewin for her book Click Clack Moo And it s seuels The stories are organized by continent Africa Australia Asia Europe South America and US and then chronologically from the 1970s through the early 2010sThe experiences are interesting and engaging Each is only a page or two and most feel like they were taken verbatim from the authors journals The stories alone are enjoyable but are greatly enhanced by the illustrations It s almost like reading an excellent scrapbook I only picked this book up on a whim not realizing who the authors were or what it was beyond a travel memoir I didn t have I really like travel memoirs I thought I d give it a uick skim and send it on it s way to make space for something new I suppose my problem is not unlike the bookstores space is finite and books seem not to be But darn it I liked it too much So I think I ll keep it Now if I can only find room on the shelf

review È eBook or Kindle ePUB Ô Ted Lewin Ted Lewin Ô 3 review read How to Babysit a Leopard Ng photographs there is not a single dull moment as Ted and Betsy take the reader through their dramatic funny and often poignant storiesall trueA Neal Porter Boo. This book reads like someone s journalbecause it is Ted and Betsy Lewin have had the opportunity and courage to travel the world They aren t tourists but students of the places they visit The book is divided into world areas with small chapters focusing on the places they ve been in each area The Lewins have definitely had some amazing adventures traveling through Uganda during war having a hippo stand outside their loo riding a sledge pulled by reindeer miles above the Arctic Circle and The downside is that it isn t very enjoyable reading about little experiences someone else has had The book isn t a story so there isn t something to pull you to the book s end There aren t many details or facts about each location so it s not a good instruction book The book is best for off the beaten track travelers who want to hear of another s tales
