Oy Where do I start I really really disliked this book And before I get started compiling all the notes I wrote down while I was slogging through this let me just announce in case the author reads this that YES I enjoy mm erotica and YES I enjoy Highlander romance Look at my reviews by shelves if you are reading Mr HughesFirst and foremost THIS IS A BRAVEHEART COPYCAT There is no getting around it The main character is a Scottish freedom fighter He first falls in love with a Scottish commoner who has his throat slit by the English swears vengeance for his love while at the same time fighting for Scottish freedom and independence in the name of Robert the Bruce and along the way discovers that he really has a thing for the Prince of Wales and they have an affair Heat up the night NO They have two meetings and then fuck twice during the day The Braveheart movie was released in 1995 The book Braveheart was released in 1995 This book was released in 2011 and really The author didn t get a lot of ideas and inspiration from the movie and book Funny how we are reminded over and over and over again throughout the first half of the book that William Wallace is being held at the Tower for trial and then told that he was hung drawn and uarteredjust in case we thought maybe that Ragnar was William Wallace in disguise And this is NOT the image that I wanted to go to bed with last night when I started this book Okay so Ragnar and Gylis don t have a lot of time together before Gylis gets his throat cut but it is instant love As in they see each other exchange a look and bam they are out fucking in the meadow King Edward the Longshanks is portrayed almost exactly like in the movie Braveheart as is his measly son Edward Prince of Wales Wow they take down the English in the first battle just like Wallace s battle at Stirlingthey carve willow branches into spears and raise them to kill all the horses and then go hand to hand combat after that And wow Princess Isabella is thought to have had a torrid affair with William Wallace which Prince Edward knows about and doesn t really care about And yes let s get to that tooin all of the mm books I have read I have never read so much disrespectful references to women Yes We get it Ragnar and Prince Edward don t find women attractive in any way shape or form They like other men Is it really necessary to compare women to brood mares say that they are good for cooking meals and bearing children conclude that they are disgusting creatures best used as drudge animals and kept far out of sight or state that they are no exciting than last night s kitchen leavings And those are uotes from both Ragnar AND Edward Like I said we get ityou want men It just makes me wonder if the author is portraying HIS dislike of women through his writing I don t know I don t care and I m never going to read another book again by Mr Hughes There was ZERO emotion between Prince Edward and Ragnar Two conversations and they are hopelessly in love Nope I don t buy it It made the sex completely empty and as was stated in the book mere matters of the flesh There were about five sex scenes in this book and all of them were eually empty Lord Machennie wanted Prince Edward just from hearing that he preferred men Ragnar needed the heir apparent the same way that dry barley fields needed rain I find it VERY hard to believe that a Highlander commander of a freedom army would let a fleeting attraction to his enemy distract him from the art of war Two meetings one afternoon and all of his judgement is gone Geoffrey of Kent wanted Edward for life after one night and wanted to give Machennie anything he wanted even though he was repulsed And the insinuations that Richard the Lionheart preferred young boys and kept a stash of them on hand Wow the way that this book makes it sound no one liked to bed women back in the time of Robert the Bruce and William Wallace But yet it s the love that dare not speak its name And what is this crap about the sweat and the juices of arousal that make it easy for everyone to have anal sex The anus is not capable of producing lubrication That s the way it is today that s the way it was then It s not a vajayjayAnd oh GOD don t get me started on how disturbing the whole thing was with Isabella and Longshanks Another image that I didn t need in my head Cheesiest line in the bookAny Scotsman worth his ale liked it with lots of head And the same went for how any Scotsman liked things under his kilt tooLines straight from BraveheartLongshanks had hoped that by making Wallace s execution the most brutal in public memory it would serve as a deterrent against treason and sedition but it seemed to have had the opposite effectB but the Princess Isabella is your daughter in law I m aware of that Peter I m also aware that my Sodomite son refuses to bed her and that if I am to get a grandson of the Plantagenet line on her I will have to do it myselfSo men follow me as we go to meet Longshanks Follow me as we go to rip England s heart from its very breast and suckle there on the blood that spills Follow me as we go win back for Scotland the freedom that burns brightly in the heart of every Scotman Follow me and take back our landSound familiar Ellora s Cave I m very disappointed in you This is historical fiction not romanceTo sum up this is how I feel about the book [Pdf Read] (Valiant One) was disappointed with this story Maybe because I was expecting something different There isn’t much romance and the sex wasn’tsexy The author spends most of the story talking about battle strategies and the politics of Feudal England There are too many secondary characters and subplots for a story of this length novella The author wanted to impress upon the reader that the Scots are fierce fighters and proud people But it was mentioned
