Tracker Author Gary Paulsen Read Æ E-book, or Kindle E-pub Hn tracks a doe for two days but as he closes in on his prey he realizes he cannot shoot her For John the hunt is no longer about killing but about life. The book Tracker is a very good book Right now I m reading a lot of Gary Paulsen books and this one is right at the top as far as I m concerned John is definitely my favorite character John has been through so much considering both his parents died in a plane crash and now his grandfathers cancer crisis The fact that him and his grandfather went hunting every year together and John had to do it by himself this time is crazy I give this a rate of 4 stars

Tracker Author Gary Paulsen Read Æ E-book, or Kindle E-pub For John Borne's family hunting has nothing to do with sport or manliness It's a matter of survival Every fall John and his grandfather go off into the. Well this was a waste of my timeFirst of all Paulsen is trying so darn hard to be poetic that it loses any pretty wording it might have had He s straining so much to sound deep and meaningful that it s just stupid and I come away from it impatient and annoyed He puts too much meaning in e v e r y t h i n g because he s trying to be insightful and profoundSecondly he mentions that he knows how to survive in the woods because his grandfather taught him Except that fsr he thinks that he ll freeze to death if he falls asleep in the snow Dude even I know me someone who s lived in the city for the majority of her life even I know that when you fall asleep your core body temperature drops which means that inside of you isn t as warm as it normally is so you adjust to the weather mate These people said that uncontrollable shivering will wake you up before you get too cold Obviously he s not uite as well taught as he bragged Science and health lecture over for nowThird John wastes the whole book tracking a deer He doesn t even shoot it He just follows it until it diesHere s the problem I have with that disclaimer I ve never hunted I m not even interested in hunting I hate the taste of venison and guns are boring and a little bit scary to me I ve never been interested in them But if you re going to go out at three o clock in the morning to bag a deer then for goodness sake bag a deer The worst of it is that he doesn t shoot the doe why Because when he sees her he s like gosh darn I love this deer No joke he literally falls in love with a deer He feels bad that he has to shoot her but he puts the gun to his shoulderand still doesn t shoot her WHY JUST KILL THE THING But he s like nah fsr the point is he doesn t want to shoot her he wants to touch her Don t deer carry some kind of disease ik they carry fleas but ok maybe he s just really clean and doesn t worry about that kind of stuff So he gets this crazy dumb idea to follow her so that he can touch her and in doing so will somehow stop his grandfather from dying of cancer This kid is definitely not broke out with brains that is for sureSo instead he runs her into the ground almost literallyThe thing is he s so eaten up about shooting a deer that he doesn t realize he s just killing her a different way He sees the blood on the ground because fsr she s bleeding idk why it never explains but that s what s happening and he s like WOW it s so beautiful in its ugliness ok since when have you thought something dying because of you was beautiful The kid is mentalAnd the thing that mostly bothered me was just how unsorry he was he s so fired up about how bad it is to kill stuff but then once he kills her well it s fine because he killed her in an unusual but still on purpose way so that makes everything all right somehowHere s the clincher He follows her and is like wow she and I have become one but he misses the fact that his following her is making her scared and she s running away from him He s following her like an idiot thinking oh a piece of me is in her and a piece of her is in me Can that kid please see a doctor he s acting so delusionalWell then she falls and doesn t get up again so he drags his sorry butt over to her because by this time he s tired too and touches her Yay for the kid whatever And then he watches as she dies and he s like wow my life is full of peace and harmony and potential So then he gets up andGoes homeExcuse me what You re going to make the deer run everywhere until she kills herself or you kill her and you aren t even going to take it home How is this fair And your grandparents are waiting bc you know what genius they count on the deer meat for their food you said so yourself so why don t you drag her home How is this smart Unfortunately he doesn t die from exhaustion though I was rooting for that to happenWhen he reaches the farmhouse the grandparents are like yay you re back and he s like I found a deer and they like where it at and he s like oh I uhI just followed it And I touched it And I found out the secret to happiness and immortalityOK no he doesn t say the thing about the secret but basically he says he touched her and all is right with the world Except that he got this wasting disease from her and basically everyone within two feet is going to die tomorrow Oh wait no not that either CrapNo all he says is and I uote A thing changed A thing changed in hunting in everything and I walked after her but didn t shoot her And I walked for two days and then I touched her Actually two days and a night And when I touched her everything changed everything about the way we are and what s happeningand then the grandfather is like I AM SO PROUD OF YOU GRANDSONNo really that s not a joke He s actually genuinely proud of his grandson for running a deer into the ground and then leaving itCould someone please shoot this kidon the bright side I guess the vultures won t starve because John will provide them with food
